ABOUT THE BAND

In 2020, SalsaVive - the orchestra, was founded by its leader LUIS ESQUILIN, a veteran college academic, licensed social worker and award winning recording artist, writer/producer and pianist in New York City. Acting on his more esthetic side as a musical innovator with classical training from El Conservatorio de Musica de Puerto Rico back in the 1960s, Esquilin founded the 14 piece orchestra playing what the Grammy's categorize as tropical music and later added the more classic Latin Jazz side of the presentation. Initially playing with and alongside a number of notable Latin musicians during the golden age of Latin music of the 1970s, Esquilin appeared alongside such marquee performers such as Tito Puente, El Gran Combo, Ray Barreto, Larry Harlow & Joe Cuba. He eventually wrote for Fania Records and its recording artists. Currently, SalsaVive has brought to the airways its current Extended Play Recording of contemporary Salsa original compositions with driving rhythms blended with the more traditional Latin Jazz styles resulting in recordings currently available on Apple Music, Spotify, iTunes and similar venues.
